Building a Sustainable
Australia–Saudi Corridor
The momentum between Australia and Saudi Arabia continues to accelerate. With Australia’s
trade with the GCC and broader Middle East now exceeding A$30 billion annually, this region
has become one of the most important growth corridors for Australian exporters.
Saudi Arabia, given its scale, population, and pace of economic transformation, is emerging as
the central anchor for long-term regional engagement. While goods frequently transit through
neighbouring hubs, the Kingdom represents the largest end market opportunity in the Gulf,
fully aligned with the ambitions of Saudi Vision 2030 and its drive to diversify, localise, and
industrialise the economy.
Following the recent visit of Don Farrell, I have seen firsthand the foundations of a stronger
ecosystem designed to unlock deeper two-way trade and investment flows between our
nations, particularly across the Middle East and Africa corridor.
My recent meeting with the Governor of the Saudi General Authority of Foreign Trade
reinforced the Kingdom’s genuine commitment to expanding bilateral trade. The level of
alignment from the Saudi trade office signals that the next phase of Australia–Saudi
cooperation will be strategic, structured, and highly impactful.
This collaboration extends far beyond trade volumes. It will support supply chain resilience,
new investment pathways, job creation, and industrial development across priority sectors,
including food security, critical minerals, healthcare, and advanced manufacturing. What we
are building is not transactional access, but a sustained corridor of cooperation with
measurable economic and strategic outcomes for decades to come.
